What is FICS?

FICS stands for the Free Internet Chess Server which idea is to give chess players a chance to play for free against other users. FICS does not begin and end with this and there is a lot more you can find at their home page. To use FICS you must have a unique username called "handle" and a password. A FICS member then is someone who has a registered handle in FICS. Users with temporary accounts (guest accounts) are not granted to join any IBS tourney or other official tourneys in variety of forms or to join teams like V-FEC.

What is V-FEC?

V-FEC stands for Veins - Friendship, Entertainment, and Chess. It is a group of FICS members who play each other or other FICS users as individuals and participate in team leagues of course as a team. To see a brief background of the club check out the Club Members page.

Who is a designated guest?

A designated guest of V-FEC is a member of FICS who is not officially a member of V-FEC, but he or she is allowed to play one or more IBS tourneys with the club members. A designated guest will receive tourney updates just like the official members of the club.

How can I join an IBS tourney?

First you have to "finger" ngo or CarlosKerber of FICS, or check the Tourneys page here on V-FEC Home to see if any open tourneys are available and then send ngo or CarlosKerber of FICS a message and follow the instructions. The second way to send your request is to send it via E-mail to ibs@veins.qupis.com including your FICS handle and the IBS you want to join. V-FEC is free to accept or reject the requests and is not responsible for any problems that may occur during an IBS tourney. If your request is accepted then you are simply a designated guest of V-FEC. On the condition of availability you can join more than one IBS tourney.

How can I join V-FEC?

At V-FEC, captains decide to grant the permission of being a member of V-FEC which depends on the arrangement of the sub-teams of the club. There is no procedure to follow because most of the time the team's capacity is full. But if V-FEC captains decide to add a member, they prefer not to invite anonymous people with no positive background which means that they like to choose their brave-heart among known players or known designated guests of V-FEC. To see a list of current captains or deputy captains and their E-mails, take a look at our Contact Us page.

Where can I look for tourney results and time schedules?

If you are a member or a designated guest then updates are likely to be posted to your E-mail. If not, then you can check the latest news here on Tourneys page or you can take a look at V-FEC Blog.
